What you say about music is true and well put, but to deny that the hammer is an 'offensive' tool to tune idols with is obtuse. I'm not saying that it's only used in this way. The point is that the idols that are not hollow (that have something substantial within them) can withstand the hammering.
I also think the fact that these quotes came from his unpublished notebooks make them more interesting. (Btw, they are from the original manuscripts which were untouched by his sister). In these passages, he's expressing doubt about his previous beliefs (just as he does in Ecce Homo about his published work) - that to me is interesting (even if he never intended to publish).
Btw, you shouldn't open a one minute post expecting nuance. That's what longform is for. It's an interesting twist in his timeline, that's all.
